At Hoffman Estates - October 6th

From The Daily Herald:

Fillies are champs again

Barrington’s 25-11, 25-19 victory clinched its sixth straight Mid-Suburban West title and first for rookie girls coach Kathleen Russell.

The Fillies (16-7, 9-0) took an 8-2 lead in Game 1 and never looked back.

The Hawks (4-18, 0-9) played tough but Barrington’s crisp play left little room for error on the Hawks’ side of the court.

“We got to play a lot of girls,” Russell said. “We have been working on our serving and it showed today.”

Barrington seemed to be in sync early by serving several aces and never wasted a chance to score on a kill.

Hoffman adjusted in the second game, but its improved play came a little too late.

The Hawks took an 8-5 lead in Game 2 and seemed poised for an upset.

“We played better in the second game,” said Hoffman coach Angela Drenth. “They (Barrington) were just a little quicker than us; we need to work a little on our blocking so we will be ready for Schaumburg on Tuesday.”

Leading the Barrington attack were Autumn Worozaken (8 kills), Natalie Barton (6) and Jackie Patmor (3) while setter Lexi Zimmerman (43-of-43) handed out 18 assists.

“Our timing is good right now and we feel we’re playing pretty well,” Russell said. “We committed a few errors, but we feel we’re getting to where we need to be.”

The Fillies, who have won 55 straight in the MSL West, will see some solid competition today and Saturday at the St. Charles Invite.
